I just returned from the annual meeting of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and everyone is talking about the awake mini-abdominoplasty or Avelar technique. This was published by Dr. Avelar of Brazil and has been called the Brazilian mini tummy tuck- we have been performing this procedure using only local anesthesia and relaxing oral medication for several years and with great success. There is virtually no bleeding and the patient is walking upright out of the office 15 minutes after the surgery. The results are quite remarkable with ease of recovery and an extremely low incidence of morbidity, otherwise known as post-operative problems. There are no drain tubes and post-operative pain is very low.

We are finally in the new office building at 1640 N. Maitland Ave, Maitland 32751 just 1/2 mile north of the intersection of Maitland Blvd and Maitland Ave. We have privacy and plenty of parking for our ground floor, modern suite. All of our patients and friends are welcome to come by to see the new facility. Look for our open house the end of January, date TBD.

We are drawing to the end of 07 and it has been a tumultuous year. We have new technologies and much more experience with them. Radiesse, Juvederm, and Restylane have become very popular for filling lines and wrinkles with Botox even more popular for stopping motion wrinkles. The new Accent radiofrequency treatment is showing nice improvements in cellulite and skin tightening with no pain or downtime. The Brazilian mini-tummy tuck has many fans as this procedure reduces fat and lower abdomenal loose skin with virtually no downtime and no sleep-anesthesia.

Old news first- we havent moved yet, hopefully we will be in our new facility at 1640 N. Maitland Ave. in Maitland by mid-November. We will have lots of privacy and natural light and plenty of parking. Our next door neighbor will be Sand Lake Imaging- very convenient for mammagrams!
Now the exciting news- we have acquired the Alma Accent which is a radiofrequency device that reduces cellulite, decreases volume of fat, improves the appearance and tightens skin. There are only three units in Florida and we are the only one in Central FL.! The treatments are painless without wounding or downtime! The treatments are about 20 mins. and are performed every three weeks for a total of six sessions, although more can be done as the patient may wish. The treatment reduces and improves the appearance of cellulite by decreasing fat volume, increasing circulation and stimulating new collagen formation. There are two modalities- unipolar for deeper effect and bipolar for more surface effect which tightens the skin and is showing a nice effect on the face and neck. The cost of treatment is very reasonable and is discounted for multiple areas.

We have great news and some disappointing news. The bad first: the pneumatic skin flattening we were so excited about to reduce the pain of laser treatments turned out to be more trouble than it was worth. We already have skin cooling for increased comfort and protection of the surface skin and the psf didnt really provide any more benefit.
Now the good news: we are getting close to opening our new office at 1640 N. Maitland Avenue in Maitland, just 1/2 mile north of the intersection of Maitland Blvd. We hope by the end of Sept. we will be ready to welcome patients to our new updated facility of 3500 sq. ft. with two operatories and esthetician services.
